Day 9 Lima

Breakfast in hotel

After breakfast we decided to do a little exploring before our gastronomic tour. We didn't walk far, and crossing streets was an adventure since very few intersection have stoplights and we were still trying to figur out the rhyme and reason of who went when and how pedestrians knew what to do.  We got a couple of blocks away and found a Liman supermarket. We have always enjoyed seeing what is in the  local stores to see what 'ordinary' people might eat, and how much things cost. We were mostly in search of water, since they charge so much in the hotels, and it's not safe for us to drink the tap water here.

While there we ran into a young couple, also looking for water.  We got to share our knowledge. About the difference between 'Agua sin gas' and 'Agua con gas.'  None of us wanted carbonated water, 'Agua sin gas' it was for us all. We got a 2.5 liter bottle for. Less that the hotel wanted for a .625 liter bottle, so we were very happy.

We went back to the hotel a different way, but still didn't cross many streets, so Joyce was happy. When we got to the hotel, our tour guide was already there, 15 minutes early. So we deposited things in our room and got rour day for our first tour in Peru.

Day 10 From the City to the Jungle

May 11, 2017 Today started early. We were picked up at the hotel at 5:40 am for an 8:40 am flight. Condor Travel had our boarding passes when we arrived so we checked our luggage and went through security quickly. Our plane landed in Cusco, but we didn’t have to get off and were soon on our way. We arrived in Puerto Maldonado and were transferred to the Rainforest Expedition office where we were given a moist fragrant towel and fruit juice. After providing basic information including our departing flight information we boarded a bus for the 30 minute ride to the Tambopata River. Our luggage was stored on top of the bus for the trip. We were glad we didn't have to lift our heavy bags up to the top of the bus! We were given a snack at the beginning of the trip which included several Brazil nuts, banana or plantain chips, a miniature banana and fruit juice.
